36 meters of tower make up its fortress walls shaped like a medieval castle. It was built between 1221 and 1220 by order of the Almohad governor, abú-l’ulá. was equipped with 12 sides from which all possible fronts open to an invasion could be attacked.
Built with mortar and reinforced with ashlar, impenetrable icon for foreigners who dared to try… or almost impenetrable.
On the banks of the Guadalquivir River, it was a surveillance headquarters giving way to the ships that passed and entered Seville through the port.
Unique in its kind? Unfortunately or fortunately not. During the Seville World Expo in 1992, this beautiful work of art was paired with the belem tower in Lisbon. a union that endures over time.

Curiosities Metrosol parasol of seville
- As the writer Luis Baras wrote:
«Lights and shadows, river and legend, gold tower, perfect night, the elf at dusk is always alert»
- For fans of the video game Age of empires can build a similar relic.
- Similar to the tower of the silver, also located in Seville, is of albarran structure since they were and are currently fortified enclosures. As such, its main function was to defend the city.
- Why the tower of gold? its name is due to the golden reflection projected by the rays of the sun on the river Guadalquivir. another theory was that «gold» was the reflection produced by the sun on the tiles around it. some villagers said that these flashes were due to the brightness of the straw blades with which it was coated on multiple occasions. One way or another, his metaphor for the sun is clear.
And as this writer of Sevillian origin recites, this tower has been news of multiple legends, sighs and delights.
One of the legends placed the king with several ladies and their furtive encounters in the gold tower, not so much as military duties, but as a place for his hidden desires.
Another legend houses that, in the museum, royal characters were imprisoned or even dismissed in their last goodbye.
Some legends went further stating that it was linked to the river through chains making it impossible for anyone outside Seville to access.
Other characters of the time claimed that this impediment was made by a chain of barges, like a bridge preventing the access of any boat. This was so until Cantabria invaded them. Hence its emblem:
Countless people have seen unexplained or indescribable things and have witnessed when narrating them.
